Despite all the multimedia ways the word “storytelling” is used these days, the oral tradition of speaking our stories to each other is our most ancient form of communication, culture-transmission, and persuasion. In this workshop, Shannon M. Turner, Founder & Creative Director of StoryMuse, will guide us through storytelling basics, including structure, vulnerability, details, and change. Participants will practice deep listening & draw life maps in order to cultivate personal stories for discussion of how we build empathy through storytelling. We will explore themes like cooperation, adventure, and interdependence, and how all these threads inform our lives as cyclers and community members.
Created through partnership between the Atlanta cycling community and storytellers, Spoke & Word connects bike culture with broader stories that everyone can relate to--love, loss, personal records, finding community, and fixing a flat.
