Dirty Chai

It’s time to get up because after a long hiatus, Dirty Chai is back! On Friday, May 17th, Join Adventure by Bike ATL on a ~13.3 mile, ~28% off-road adventure through some of Atlanta's best urban gravel and dirt trails! This is one sure to wake you up as you pedal and grind through Atlanta’s more off beaten scenery! Whether you've yet to explore Atlanta's dirt trails or are a seasoned veteran, this ride promises a great time riding some of the Paths Less Pedaled tucked away within our City in a Forest.

For those looking to ride more afterwards, you can follow the ride leader to link up with the Coffee Outside ride (8am meet-up, location TBD as of this writing- check the ACF events page for updates)! Your ride leader will have a small stove with them but if you want to drink coffee outside, check in closer to the ride to see if it's necessary to bring your own backcountry pour-over/instant coffee. For those feeling extra frisky, you can even join the donut ride after that. Quite the morning of bikes!

IMPORTANT NOTES! THIS IS A DROP RIDE

  • Although this ride will still watch out to keep riders together as much as possible, grouping up and helping with basic mechanical issues. The ride will keep to a steady party pace and require a certain technical ability on the attendee’s part to keep up. If you wish to attend please keep this in mind and be able to navigate on your own to another location if need be.

  • This ride will be early with little light at first and in poorly lit areas so a bright front light is necessary and a head lamp is strongly suggested

  • While this route won't feature any trails or singletrack as difficult as you might find on certain Atlanta MTB group rides (ahem, Dirty Mustache...), we still recommend that riders have some experience riding gravel and singletrack.

  • An appropriate bike is also required, e.g. a gravel bike or mtb, preferably with 40mm+ tires and some knobby tread. Thicker tires with lower pressure will only make you more comfy and happy :)

  • We will be riding ~party pace~, so expect 10-12 mph averages on paved sections and group-ups after off-road sections. This is not a race!

  • This is NOT a strictly "no-drop" ride. Our goal is to get back between 7:30 and 8am, leaving at 6:15am sharp. That gives us ~1.5 hours to ride. If riders experience significant mechanicals or are unable to keep up to an extent that prevents everyone else from getting back on time, we may have to inform you that we won't be able to wait up for you at the next stop. Therefore, we recommend having a contingency plan in place in case of mechanicals or "bonking," e.g. a functioning Breeze Card for MARTA, smartphone to order a rideshare pickup, or a friend who can be on-call for pick-up.

  • Riders should all have a spare tube that fits your tires (bonus points if you're also set up tubeless, though that's not required).

  • Feel free to stick around as long as you like afterwards to eat breakfast biscuits and pastries and drink coffee with good company at Press & Grind VaHi!

What Else!

  • Meet Time: 6am

  • Roll Time: 6:15am (sharp!)

All ending times are approximate.

NOTE: Please ride safely and adhere to all normal traffic laws as they apply to bicycles. Please wear helmets, bring lights, and exercise caution at all time. These routes are on active roads so ride at your own risk and always be wary of other cyclists and drivers on the road. Thank you and good riding!!
