We're Looking For Two Talented People For ACF 2016

-
The Atlanta Cycling Festival is a weeklong bicycle Festival, proudly made in Atlanta, Georgia.

Drawing inspiration from European bicycle festivals, the ACF took off the kickstand and shifted into the big ring in 2014, with the first ACF successfully pedaling into 2,000+ Atlanta cyclists’ hearts. Based on feedback and surveys, the ACF again pumped the tires and wheelied into another successful year in 2015, this time bringing out 3,000+ Atlanta cyclists.

Based (again) on feedback and success, we’re poised to #BikeATL for another successful year come 2016, all while staying true to our community and festival goals.

Broadly, though, the Atlanta Cycling Festival wants to become the SXSW for bikes in Atlanta: Where people take a week off work, travel to Atlanta to experience bike rides, bike art, bike tech, bike films, bike music and all things biking in the city that we love – Atlanta. (Note: We don’t make small goals here).

And that’s where we need help. Maybe your help.

We’ve got a lot of big things planned for the 2016 ACF, but in order to help achieve our goals, we’re looking for two key players. These positions are paid – We value your time and will pay for it, as much as we can.

Here are the two open positions:

*********************************
Bike Technology Director:
*********************************
With wearables, apps, alternative energy options and more, right now it’s a great time to be in tech. And we want to bring that to the ACF. For this position, you will be responsible for:
  • Concepting, organizing and realizing 2-4 bike technology events. Think bike tech hack night, powering an event only with bikes, wearables challenge, light-up the night with Bluetooth connected/synced bike lights… You get the idea.
  • Bringing in tech brands/businesses/ideas to help make these events happen. This will mean talking to people and helping them understand the vision of ACF, connecting the dots on why that’s important and then making the magic happen. A great thing to do, especially if you want to carve a niche for yourself in the bike tech world.
  • Other responsibilities: Attend all ACF meetings, work closely with festival director and ACF team, be in Atlanta and able to help/organize/lead events during the 2016 ACF.
  • Must haves: A bike/be a bicycle rider, work well in teams (collectively and independently), be able to delegate, able to manage people/volunteers, 100% honest/truthful, able to admit weaknesses and shortcomings, a positive attitude and a desire to positively change Atlanta through cycling.
  • Nice-to-haves: “Know how to talk tech” – Coding, programming, electronics, awesome “nerd” stuff like that, previous event experience, startup/tech connections.
  • Managing expectations: This is most assuredly a part-time, side-gig position. You will be paid for your work at the end of ACF 2016. Compensation is based on how well the ACF does. The more we, “make” the more we can, “give” – To you, to nonprofits, to the Atlanta cycling community.
  • Apply Here (application closes Sept 26th)
*********************************
Volunteer & Digital Resource Director:
*********************************
We’re looking for someone that loves, loves, loves (!) working with people. Someone who is also very detailed oriented, not afraid to pump out a well-organized Excel doc that is color-coded, alphabetized and easy to understand. For this position, you will be responsible for: Organizing Volunteers for ACF 2016:
  • Organizing Volunteers for ACF 2016: We will hold volunteer trainings and ride leader trainings, then assigning those people to events/nights/tasks for ACF.
  • Organize materials and routes for ACF 2016: One of the, “hardest” parts of this position is making sure all the routes, descriptions, needs and other digital items are given by event hosts.
  • Other responsibilities: Attend all ACF meetings, work closely with festival director and ACF team, be in Atlanta and able to help/organize/lead events during the 2016 ACF.
  • Must haves: A bike/be a bicycle rider, work well in teams, be able to delegate, able to manage people/volunteers, 100% honest/truthful, able to admit weaknesses and shortcomings, desire to change Atlanta through cycling.
  • Nice-to-haves: Previous event experience.

Interested? We’d love for you to apply. Our goal is to make these positions game-changers for you and ACF.

2017 Atlanta Cycling Festival Dates Announced

-

We'll just get this out of the way:

The 4th Annual Atlanta Cycling Festival is proud to announce the official 2017 dates: Saturday, June 10 - Saturday, June 17.

As a friendly reminder of what you can expect, check out our 2016 Wrap Up Video from our fantastic videographer: Matthew Mammola

Never being satisfied with "let's just do the same thing again," the ACF team has been hard at work planning and scheming on how to make this year's Festival even better.

Here's a preview of a few ideas that we have planned:

  • Concrete Jungle Fruit Tree Exploration Explosion Expedition: While the name is a working title, we're elated to work with the awesome team at Concrete Jungle. This bike tour is one of a kind and will be full of surprises - And homemade plumb wine, we hear.
  • The Most Adorably Aggressive Children's Bicycle Race Of Doom: Again, working title (We're really good at these, right?), but we plan on hosting the most adorable and aggressive 4-10 yr bicycle race ever in Atlanta. Get your kids ready - There will be awesome prizes, snacks and juice boxes.
  • 2X The Ramps = 100X The Fun MTB Pump Track: We're stoked to have REI and Clif Bar as sponsors again this year. They'll be at several events, culminating with combining both of their MTB pump tracks. It's going to be marvelously large and fun to ride.
  • Bicycle Speed Dating: It's back! Looking for love on two wheels? Well, look no more! The ACF Team will use our Bicycle Algorithm of Love to match you to your future bike partner. Go ahead and delete Tinder from your phone - We've got you.
  • Atlanta Streets Alive: West Side: The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, organizers and founders of Atlanta Streets Alive (ASA), have again decided to hold ASA in tandem with the 2017 ACF. We're incredibly honored to work with ABC and have this event during the Festival.

And that's just a small preview - We've got a whole lot more up our jerseys...

Great! How Can I Help?

Thanks for asking! The ACF takes months of planning and an incredible staff to make it a reality.

Here are a few ways you can help us:

  1. Buy Swag - Support The Festival: Check out our ACF Store. All purchases help make the 2017 ACF a reality.
  2. Sponsor The Festival: We're still looking for local sponsors. Believe in the ACF? Then let's talk!
  3. Volunteer: We're already taking volunteers. Want to meet a lot of wonderful people and have a great time on a two wheels? Join us!
  4. Host A Ride Or Host An Event: We're building out our event calendar now. Have a great event idea? Let us know!

So, go ahead and request the week of June 10 - June 17 off. This Festival's going to be a blast.

We're Hiring - Join The Atlanta Cycling Festival Team

The Atlanta Cycling Festival is headed into its firth year next year. We're extremely excited about this milestone, coming to you live in 2018.

5th Year Of The Atlanta Cycling Festival

-
Five Years of the Atlanta Cycling Festival

This year we're excited to celebrate 5 years of the Atlanta Cycling Festival. Let's take a ride down memory lane and check out some highlights from the past 5 years with 5 great events:

1. Opening Bash - 2014

2014 ACF Opening Party

Our first big party! We had digital bike races, bicycle jousting, our first bike vendor space, tons of New Belgium Beer and so much more. This was, by far, one of our most "nerve racking" events. We planned and planned and worked really hard to make it fantastic. When the set 7pm start time came around, we were (Needlessly) nervous that no one would show up. Well, we were very wrong! What an incredible night that was.

2. 2nd Annual Doughnut Ride - 2015

Doughnut Bike Ride Atlanta

We had such a great response to the first doughnut ride in 2014 that we brought it back in 2015. Filling up everyone with some amazing doughnuts, we also built some great community, got to go support some local doughnut shops along the way and even wear some tutus! The Doughnut Ride is now a staple in the Atlanta Cycling Festival event lineup.

Special thank you to David Kipp for making this event happen every year. He's an incredible ACF volunteer... who happens to really love doughnuts! Oh, and rumor has it that for 2018, this ride will visit 5+ doughnut shops. Our waistlines are already expanding.

3. One Ride to the Quick Release Bicycle Art Show - 2016

Atlanta Cycling Festival One RideAnother one of our staple rides is our annual One Ride, where we ask Atlanta bike rides/orgs to start a ride anywhere in city (like the spokes on a wheel) and come together at one central hub and ride together. In 2016, we had almost 300 riders join us, ending at Eventide Brewing for our first ever Quick Release Bicycle Art Show.

4. Bike Camping Trip - 2017

2017 ACF Bike CampingSince 2015, the ACF holds a fundraising Bike Camping Trip in April. It always sells out and is an incredible time - 32 miles on the Silver Comet Trail, followed by delicious food, beer, amazing people and so much more. This past year was one of our best yet... save for the rain that joined us on our return trip. No matter! Just look at those smiles after we returned to the trail head - the beer at the end may have aided in this.

5. This year celebrating 5 years - 2018

Five rears of the Atlanta Cycling FestivalAnd here we are! We're pedaling hard into our 5th year of the festival, coming to you Saturday, May 19 - Friday, May 25th. We can't wait. Make sure we're connected with us to get all the 2018 info:

2018 Atlanta Cycling Festival Dates Announced!

-

Let's just get this out of the way:

The 2018 Atlanta Cycling Festival will be Saturday, May 19 - Friday, May 25.

Boy oh boy, we can't wait. Here are all the news and announcements for this year's festival.

We're Proud Of Our 2018 Theme

Here it is: Exploring Atlanta by bike, 5 years in a row.

That's right - We're headed in the 5th year of the festival. The idea for the Atlanta Cycling Festival was born in 2013 after visiting a cycling festival in Cork, Ireland (Check out our humble beginnings on The Mobile Social Blog).

Since then, we've been exploring and reveling in all the wonders that Atlanta has to offer via two wheels. So many parts of the city can only be fully appreciated when you jump on a bike and experience it with those in the Atlanta bicycle community.

This year, we plan on doing even more exploring, going places that we've never been and connecting with both old and new friends. We cannot wait.

Family Fun Ride at Arabia Mountains
Our first ride in 2014 - Family Fun Ride at Arabia Mountains

We're Excited To Have The Festival In May

For the past 4 years, the ACF has been in the second or third week of June. There are pros/cons to this but, after much deliberation, we decided to move the festival to May.

Why? Two big reasons: The weather is markedly cooler (June is hot hot hot hot) and there is a lot less going on in May (Festival season kicks off in June).

The above reasons will really help us focus the festival and create an even better riding experience.

Our Event Calendar Is Going To Be The Best Ever

That's right - We've got 4 years under our bike jerseys. That means 4 years of feedback, experiences and moments. This year, we're pairing down our event calendar to primarily include the best of the best events. Look for The Doughnut Ride, The One Ride, Infrastructure Tours, Queer Ride, Pecha Kucha, The Intercontinental Cocktail Ride, Yuba Bike Demos and many more crowd favorites.

But don't worry - We're going to add some new key events, taking riders to all sorts of incredible places, full of new experiences. And, of course, they'll be plenty of cold IPAs to go around.

Interested in hosting a ride or event that's never been done before? Fill out our ride info form here

This Year's Volunteer Experience Will Be Incredible

What powers the ACF? Amazing volunteers, handlebars down. Since our first festival in 2014, we've had a stellar group of volunteers help make the ACF a fun, safe and welcoming place. This year, our volunteer team is going to make sure that the experience is the best it can possibly be.

Interested in volunteering with the 2018 ACF? Sign up to volunteer here!

Sponsorship Is Now Open

Permitting, beer and the silly large amount of Tinkertown Pies we plan to consume don't come cheap. We've had the honor of working with some long time partners and sponsors to make the Atlanta Cycling Festival a reality. And this year, we're adding even more local companies that believe in Atlanta and biking, such as Cardinal Digital Marketing, a top notch Atlanta SEO company.

Won't you help us in making the 2018 ACF a reality? Here's all the 2018 Sponsorship Information

FEATURED SPONSOR

For the past 4 years, Bruce Hagen and his Bike Law Georgia team have been huge partners and sponsors of the Atlanta Cycling Festival. Bruce and his team are avid cyclists, lovers of beer and incredibly active in the Atlanta bike community.

Each year about 50,000 Americans are injured, and approximately 500 killed, while simply riding their bicycles. And, despite the growth of the Atlanta BeltLine and other metro Atlanta bike plans, our region remains a dangerous one for bikers. Georgia drivers continue to be aggressive or inattentive to bicycles with which they share the roads.

If you're ever injured in a bike crash/wreck (something we sincerely hope will never ever ever ever happen), we confidently recommend the personal injury attorneys at Bruce A. Hagen Law.
